Week Four – Brick Removal

Week Three – It’s Shaping Up Fast

Week Three proved to be another fast moving week in the construction world over at my house! We are pretty freakin’ speedy when it comes to gutting the house to the studs and reframing the interior. We, of course, have paid close attention to the Go Green aspect of the remodel. All of the ceiling joists and studs [...]

Only In Raleigh – Take One

So… as I have been driving around Raleigh for the last 28 years I have noticed some pretty crazy things that I would have loved to have caught on tape! Well, thanks to my new position at NBC 17, I have a small video camera that I carry with me everywhere! So watch out Raleigh… [...]

Week Two – Drywall is coming down!

Week Two – The Trees Come Down

I hated to cut down so many trees but the backyard was completely overgrown and so many of the trees were choked out by the wisteria vines (btw — that plant is the devil!). The lot has completely transformed after it had been cleared out. The good news is that the landscapers have a blank slate to work with and [...]

ONE MILLION DOLLARS — Now that’s a mint

The City of Raleigh has invested over $1 million of taxpayers’ hard earned money into the risky business of the restaurant world. The Mint, which opened its doors recently in the One Exchange Plaza building on Fayetteville Street will be downtown Raleigh’s signature upscale dining establishment. Without an entree offered under $25,  it’s pretty obvious you’ll have to earn a mint to [...]

Week One – Have I Gone Mad?

As some of ya’ll know, and also for those who do not, I have closed on my next house which I have named MadHouse Senior. MadHouse Senior is a house in my neighborhood, the wonderful Longview Gardens, that I have been trying to buy for over a year. After about 13 months of talking with the owners (who live in Northern [...]

Five Star Rocks it Out on New Years for Building Together Ministries

Five Star Restuarant opened its doors on New Years Eve, with one of the lowest covers in town, with all of the door proceeds going to benefit Building Together Ministries. Five Star’s regulars, and many more patrons, showed up in full force to support the cause which proved to be a huge success!
 Five Star collected $1000.00 [...]
